Santa Clara County Collaborative on Affordable Housing and Homeless Issues

Jobs & Income Committee Meeting Minutes

November 27, 2001

Host: InnVision , 974 Willow St., San Jose

Present: Anne Ehresman (InnVision), Leah Gronlund (Santa Clara Adult Ed.), Nancy Scott (Sacred Heart), Art Taylor (Goodwill)

We introduced ourselves and shared about each of our organizations and what we do to

help with job search, placement and training.

Anne passed out information on a new CalWORKS Office at 1870 Senter Rd., San Jose.

It will improve the access to CalWORKS Employment Services for clients in that area.

Anne also gave out information about the CalWORKS Scholarship Fund Program. The Scholarship Program is for eligible CWES clients and the application is due by

January 15, 2002 by 5 PM. For more information contact your local CalWORKS office.

Leah reported on the Kiosks in Santa Clara County. There are six up and running and

eight more waiting for an I.T. address from Pac Bell. The six running are: Employment

Connection at 1888 Senter Rd., San Jose; Columbia NSSC in Sunnyvale; Housing

Authority on Julian St., in the lobby; Nova and EDD in Sunnyvale; and InnVision on

Rosemary St., which may be moved to the San Jose One Stop. The eight that are not

running are: CalWORKS, Mt. View on LÆAvenida; Nova Youth Office, Sunnyvale;

Adelante Familia Social Service Office, Gilroy; Employment Connection, San Martin;

NSSC, Eastridge Mall; NSSC, 2nd Start, Hyland; CalWORKS, 1919 Senter Rd., San Jose;

Employment Connection, 591 King Rd., San Jose.

Goodwill has a waiting list for clerical, computerized accounting and A+ training classes.

There are job openings at Goodwill Industries for drivers and warehouse work. Santa

Clara Adult Ed has had good luck in placing people in driver and security positions in the

past month. EHC has openings in their Network Training Programs with A+ and Cisco.

They also have scholarship funds available to help single parents with childcare and other

support services to assist in overcoming basic barriers to beginning their education

and creating a career. The program is called "RISE", for information call Amy Estes at

(408) 855-8506 x 16.

We discussed other programs in the area, and which programs would make good

connections for our committee. We decided to connect with Catholic Charities for our

next meeting. Anne will try to set up the January meeting at Catholic Charities, or if that

does not work out, Art will connect with Jim at Salvation Army. Two other ideas for

future locations for meetings were ARC, which is a program to help those recovering

from drugs and alcohol, and the One Stop Center on Bascom.

Our next meeting will be at either Catholic Charities or Salvation Army on

Tues. Jan. 22, 2002, from 1:30 to 3:00 PM.
