Leah reported on the Kiosks in Santa Clara County. There are six up and running and
eight more waiting for an I.T. address from Pac Bell. The six running are: Employment
Connection at 1888 Senter Rd., San Jose; Columbia NSSC in Sunnyvale; Housing
Authority on Julian St., in the lobby; Nova and EDD in Sunnyvale; and InnVision on
Rosemary St., which may be moved to the San Jose One Stop. The eight that are not
running are: CalWORKS, Mt. View on LÆAvenida; Nova Youth Office, Sunnyvale;
Adelante Familia Social Service Office, Gilroy; Employment Connection, San Martin;
NSSC, Eastridge Mall; NSSC, 2nd Start, Hyland; CalWORKS, 1919 Senter Rd., San Jose;
Employment Connection, 591 King Rd., San Jose.
Goodwill has a waiting list for clerical, computerized accounting and A+ training classes.
There are job openings at Goodwill Industries for drivers and warehouse work. Santa
Clara Adult Ed has had good luck in placing people in driver and security positions in the
past month. EHC has openings in their Network Training Programs with A+ and Cisco.
They also have scholarship funds available to help single parents with childcare and other
support services to assist in overcoming basic barriers to beginning their education
and creating a career. The program is called "RISE", for information call Amy Estes at

We discussed other programs in the area, and which programs would make good
connections for our committee. We decided to connect with Catholic Charities for our
next meeting. Anne will try to set up the January meeting at Catholic Charities, or if that
does not work out, Art will connect with Jim at Salvation Army. Two other ideas for
future locations for meetings were ARC, which is a program to help those recovering
from drugs and alcohol, and the One Stop Center on Bascom.
