Introductions and announcements

Review progress on 2004 Housing Committee Workplan

Discuss August Collab Retreat and role of housing committee

Announcements:

SJ Housing Dept. Gaps in Services meeting Oct. 14 from 9-11AM.

Sept. 28 Affordable Housing Week 2005 meeting at the Housing Authority from 4:30-6PM

Silicon Valley Independent Living Center has transformed one of their properties into a transitional home for 4 disabled individuals for up to 2 years per person.

United Way has almost completed the Community Impact survey and is in the process of developing a monitoring plan for the agencies addressing the community needs.

Silicon Valley Health Coalition received a planning grant previously and now has received an implementation grant to pursue a "Housing First" model.

DISCUSSION:

The Housing Committee reviewed the topics in the 2004 Workplan listed below and reorganized, and prioritized the workplan goals for the next 6 months starting in October 2004.

2004 Housing Committee Workplan Projects

1) Affordable Housing Week û evaluation completed.

2) Follow development projects in the pipeline- foster relationships with developers.

3) Continue Bed and Unit count of permanent affordable housing units with supportive services

4) Advocacy/policy issues to rally behind:

a. National Housing Trust Fund;

b. ELI housing - advocate for San Jose housing fund allocation policy to create more ELI housing units.

c. Advocate for ordinance allowing secondary units for housing in San Jose.

5) Educate committee members and Collaborative at large about funding resources for permanent affordable housing.

 

 

6 Month Housing Committee FOCUS Oct 2004- March 2005

1) Advocacy/policy issues that affect funding for housing development and on-site services.

a. National Housing Trust Fund;

b. ELI housing - advocate for San Jose housing fund allocation policy to create more ELI housing units.

c. Advocate for ordinance allowing secondary units for housing in San Jose.

d. Educate others about funding resources for permanent affordable housing.

2) Affordable Housing Week 2005.

3) Advocacy for specific affordable housing projects and foster relationships with developers.

4) Take turns attending the Housing Action Coalition meetings once a month.
